Welcome and bienvenue to the primary section of BSL. This includes our preschool Creche and Nursery which follow the Early Years Curriculum from the UK, which follows developmental areas into the Reception class. From Year 1 through to Year 6 we follow the Cambridge International Curriculum, which is a version of the National Curriculum for England and Wales, that has been tailored for International Schools.

The Curriculum is generally thematic following ‘topics’ which are usually Science, History or Geography based and there is a focus on skills rather than the rote learning of facts. As well as this we have a big focus on Phonics acquisition in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and on reading as a whole throughout the Primary School.

In Key Stage 1 all subjects are taught through a thematic and creative approach as we believe that learning should be meaningful and we give children the opportunity to learn in a way that is familiar and relevant to their every-day lives.  In Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6) the focus shifts more to comprehension and interpreting texts all of which together provides a well rounded approach to reading which will help our learners throughout their school years and beyond. We offer extra support to new students and those who come from a non English speaking background.

As well as English, Maths, Science and History/Geography our learners also have French, PE, Music, Art and ICT lessons. There is also a full After School Activity Programme for them to take part in.

Once a week there is an assembly that is usually led by a class where the learners can ‘showcase’ what they have been learning. Parents are warmly welcomed to attend this and see how their children are doing and to be involved in their life long learning journey.

We actively promote positive behaviour strategies and want all the children to feel like they belong and are valued no matter where their strengths lie.
